There are two iPods in space, Macworld has learned.
The Johnson Space Centre published an image of European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Thomas Reiter with his iPod taped to the wall of the International Space Station (ISS) this weekend. But Macworld has learned his isn’t the only iPod in space.
US Space Shuttle Discovery docked with the International Space Station this morning, and while for Reiter, Discovery is his ride home, a new iPod-wielding spaceman seems set to take his place.
Swedish European Space Agency astronaut Christer Fuglesang flew up with the Discovery crew – he’s taking his place on the ISS tonight, according to Swedish science writer Kim Bergstrom. A keen music lover, Fuglesang has bought his iPod along with him for the ride.
Other Discovery crew members include: commander Mark Polansky, pilot Bill Oefelein, and mission specialists Nicholas Patrick, Joan Higginbotham, Bob Curbeam and Sunita Williams.
With iPods revealed as the music player of choice for astronauts, we’d be interested to learn what tracks Macworld Online readers suggest should be included on a space traveller’s playlist. Is it ‘Spaceman’ by Babylon Zoo, or the complete ‘Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’? Submit your track suggestions here.
