SubRosaSoft has released a free utility that lets Mac users carry Mac repair software on their iPod or a flash drive, DasBoot.
DasBoot lets users use an iPod, flash drive or small hard drive as a portable Mac tool kit. Users can employ their device as a Mac OS X diagnostic, repair and maintenance tool.
Users can take any third party boot CD (such as those shipped by SubRosaSoft.com, Prosoft Engineering, Alsoft, or Micromat) and quickly create a bootable diagnostic device that contains the utilities supplied.
However, users must have their own licensed copy of the Mac repair software.
DasBoot devices run software much faster than a CD/DVD repair disk. In addition users can re-configure the device at any time to add new utilities, updated versions of software or newer versions of Mac OS X.
The software has been tested with the following utilities: CopyCatX, FileSalvage, MacForensicsLab, VolumeWorks, Drive Genius, Data Rescue II, DiskWarrior and TechTool Pro.
