Hot on the heels of the announcement that it has sold its 100 millionth iPod, the list of the ‘US Top Selling Computer Hardware for February 2007’ has been published, with Apple’s iPod in first place in the MP3 category, unsurprisingly.
However, it’s not all good news for Apple, in January 2007 the company was ranked in fifth place for total dollar volume and unit share of laptop sales, with 10.1 per cent of the US laptop sales in that month, preceded by Gateway, Lenovo, Toshiba and HP in first place.
In February 2007 Apple does not feature in the laptop category. HP remains in first place with 28.5 per cent, Toshiba in second with 22 per cent, Compaq (10.3 per cent), Gateway (9.3 per cent) and finally Lenovo (7.7 per cent).
Apple boasts 72.3 per cent of US MP3 player sales in February. In second place is Sandisk (9.7 per cent), Creative Labs (2.7 per cent), Samsung (2.5 per cent), and finally Microsoft’s Zune is in fifth place, also with 2.5 per cent of the US market.
The total revenue in dollars for the whole of the MP3 player market in the US was $201,915,200. Apple gleaned $145,984,689.6 of that figure.
In January 2007 Apple achieved a slightly larger 72.7 per cent of the MP3 player market. Sandisk were in second place with 8.9 per cent, Microsoft had 3.2 per cent, Creative Labs 2.9 per cent, and Samsung 2.0 per cent.
Sales of Microsoft’s Zune MP3 player slipped quite considerably in February.
