Apple has invited Sega to recreate its cult-hit Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone.
The game, which first appeared on Sega’s now-defunct Dreamcast console involves a monkey, trapped inside a hamster ball that has to navigate around 3D platforms set in space.
It is a surprisingly apt first game for the iPhone, because the player controls the monkey by tilting the surface that it rolls around on, rather than the character itself. On the consoles this was done via a control stick, although the iPhone’s accelerometer will ensure a more interesting experience.
Sega has said that “if anything [they] underestimated what the iPhone was capable of” and that “this is not a scaled-down game but the full console version.”
