Apple television to have motion detection and iPad-like touch control

Apple didn’t reveal any new television related technology at its WWDC keynote on Monday, but that hasn’t stopped rumours about the highly anticipated Apple smart TV from continuing.

The latest speculation comes from analyst Brian White, who believes that Apple’s television will have new motion detection technology, and will come with a touchscreen remote that resembles an iPad, but has a plastic exterior.

White claims that the details of the new smart TV were revealed to him by sources in the Apple supply chain during a trip to the Computex trade show in Taiwan, reports Apple Insider. The sources hinted to White that we should expect to see the new television by the end of the year.

In a note to investors, White said that he has been told by the sources that the TV will have a “special type of motion detection technology,” which will be the main control system for the device. Alternatively, users will be able to control the TV with a “unique remote control with a touch panel form factor,” White claims.

This touchscreen remote control will look like an iPad, but will be made with plastic rather than aluminium.

Apple Insider’s report points out that White told investors in May that the Apple branded television set will be announced between two to six months before its actual launch date, implying that if Apple unveils the product this year, it could be 2013 before the device hits the shelves.

Many analysts were convinced that Apple would announce an Apple TV related product at WWDC this year, which some believed would be an Apple TV App Store, leaving several disappointed by the omission of such product.
