Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is now available for download from Apple’s App Store.
The new operating system costs just £13.99 and promises to introduce over 200 new features to the Mac, many of them designed to closely integrate Mac OS X with Apple’s iOS operating system (which powers iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices).

Mac OS X 10.8 Highlights include
- Notification Centre: quickly get alerts and banners for email, Twitter interactions, events, new messages and more.
- Reminders: Set up a ‘to do’ list that alerts you when to do tasks based on your location (push syncs to iOS devices).
- Notes: Seamless syncing of notes between Mac OS X and iOS devices.
- Documents In The Cloud: Store documents on Apple’s iCloud server and edit them on multiple Mac and iOS devices.
- VIP Inbox: A new inbox for Mail that only displays messages from selected people or groups.
- Unified search field and built-in Twitter sharing in Safari
- Gatekeeper. A new security system that requires (by default) developers to be registered with Apple before programs can be installed. Can be turned off.
Various other tweaks and features are included.
