HTC chairperson Cher Wang has insisted that the firm has no intentions of settling its patent dispute with Apple out of court, despite the recent jury verdict that hit Samsung, a fellow manufacturer of Google Android mobile handsets, with damages of more than $1bn.
According to Digitimes, Wang claimed that Samsung’s defeat was not symptomatic of the entire Android ecosystem, and that HTC is an innovative company that can handle Apple’s legal challenge.
Apple and Samsung refused to settle their patent dispute even though presiding Judge Lucy Koh instructed them to meet regularly and discuss a settlement; she even warned them that going to a jury verdict was risky for both companies.
In the event it was Samsung that suffered, being handed a damages bill of more than $1bn, although the South Korean firm has appealed the decision.
