Apple has taken a step further towards a greener future, making some of its new iPod touch and iPod nano packaging biodegradable.
The company’s new EarPods, which ship with the new iPods that became available to buy this week, have a dissolvable holder. Just add water and the packaging turns into mush.
Mashable’s Lance Ulanoff spotted the new packaging material’s dissolvable qualities and has posted a video as evidence, which you can watch here.
Ulanoff says that he contacted Apple to ask about the new packaging, and, although they didn’t specifically confirm the findings, they highlighted their Environmental Footprint web page, which discusses the use of renewable tapioca paper foam material, a material that Mashable believes could be what’s used for the disintegrable packaging.
It’s worth noting that Apple’s iPhone 5 EarPod case is made from plastic, and therefore, doesn’t dissolve in water, (obviously).
