UPDATE: Apple has now denied these rumours. Read: Apple confirms: ‘We are hard at work on the next version of Logic Pro’
There may be no future for Apple’s pro audio application Logic if reports that the company has ‘decimated’ its Pro Audio applications team turn out to be true.
Pro Tools Expert sources claim that in Europe Apple has just two pro application specialists and no plans to hire any one else.
That site claims a search on Apple’s job site returned some audio related jobs relating to iPod speakers, audio in Final Cut and internal sound engineers.
The next audio application from Apple will be for the iPad, according to Pro Tools Expert sources.
Logic Pro 9 was last updated in 2009. Music Radar notes that since 2009 the DAW (digital audio workstation) business has changed dramatically. That site has contacted Logic Pro users and compiled a list of features it would like to see in Logic Pro X, should Apple ever update the software. Wished for features include: rock-solid auto-save; more Ableton-like audio warping engine; make Logic able to address more than the maximum 4GB of RAM; tighter automation; a Copy+Paste clip with/without automation option; a better and easier-to-use sampler; drag ‘n’ drop/plug ‘n’ play MIDI effects as in Ableton.
The lack of a truly up-to-date Mac Pro and the scaled down Final Cut X left many pro users concerned that Apple was neglecting its professional user base. Apple CEO Tim Cook did confirm earlier this year that a new Mac Pro will be launched in 2013, all eyes will be on Apple to see if the new product truly meets the needs of pro customers. It seems likely that the launch will happen in June to coincide with Apple’s WWDC.
