Jobs movie delayed, new release date yet to be confirmed

The release of ‘Jobs’, the Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher, has been pushed back by Open Road Films in order to give the distribution company more time to market the movie, according to a report.

The film was originally set to arrive in cinemas on 19 April, to coincide with the 37^th anniversary of Apple’s founding, but The Hollywood Reporter reports that Open Road Films has decided to postpone the release of Jobs (previously titled ‘jOBS’).

The report cites “insiders” who claim that Open Road wants more time to market the film, which premiered to mixed reviews at the Sundance Film Festival in January. A new release date has not yet been confirmed.

One person who’s not a fan of the Jobs movie is Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who is played by Josh Gad in the film. Upon seeing the first clip of the film in January, Wozniak deemed the film “crap,” ” totally wrong,” and has gone so far as to say that Steve Jobs would have been “offended and embarrassed” by Kutcher’s portrayal of him.

During a Macworld/iWorld keynote in February, Kutcher and Gad responded to Wozniak’s criticism of the film, and said that it was “done with the utmost love, admiration, and respect.”

“We weren’t there,” added Kutcher. “In film making, you have to make a narrative that plays. If you look at the extent these two [Jobs and Wozniak] took together, there were a lot of moments where nobody else was there.”

Jobs, not to be confused with Sony’s movie adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography, which is expected to arrive later this year, depicts Jobs’ life from 1971 to 2000, and also stars Matthew Modine as ex-Apple CEO John Sculley, Giles Matthey as Jony Ive and Ahna O’Rielly as Job’s ex-girlfriend Chris-Ann Brennan.
