A preview of the ‘official’ Steve Jobs manga comic series has been published online, as the first chapter hits the shelves in Japan today in the April issue of monthly manga serial Kiss.
The manga series is said to be an officially licenced adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s authorised biography of Steve Jobs.
The manga, which is told from Isaacson’s point of view, begins when Jobs asks the biographer to write his life story, and is told by Jobs’ wife Laurene Powell-Jobs that the Apple co-founder is dying from pancreatic cancer, reports Apple Insider. We then follow Isaacson as he gets to know Jobs through interviews.
Illustrated by award winning Japanese artist Mari Yamazaki, the series will be serialised over the coming months in female comic magazine Kiss, which is published by Kodansha, Japan’s largest manga publisher. Yamazaki has reportedly been chosen to illustrate the story of Steve Jobs because she feels “sympathy” for him, and has a “realistic and charming painting style.”
The first illustration from the manga appeared online on 13 March.
This is not the first Steve Jobs comic to have been created since he died in October 2011. In January 2012, Bluewater Productions released an unauthorised 32-page comic book rendition of the life of Steve Jobs, but it was criticised for its poor drawings.
Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs is also being adapted into a movie by Sony, and The Social Network screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin.
A separate Steve Jobs film, The Jobs Movie, premiered in January to mixed reviews, and stars Two and a Half Men actor Ashton Kutcher.
