Apple is set to make “a boatload” of money from the as yet unannounced
iWatch, according to a report.
Kleiner Perkins partners analyst Mary Meeker has published a collection of charts as part of a report on the state of the technology industry.
According to Meeker, the average smartphone user checks their phone about 150 times per day. She even has the insight into what they are checking for:
Messaging, 23 times a day
Voice Call, 22 times a day
Checking Time, 18 times a day
Music, 13 times a day
Gaming, 12 times a day
Social Media, 9 times a day
Camera, 8 times a day
Alarm, 8 times a day
News & Alerts, 6 times a day
Calendar, 5 times a day
Web, 3 times a day
Search, 3 times a day
Other, 14 times a day
suggests many of these checks are things that people would prefer to do by looking at their wrist.
Business Insider’s conclusion, having ruled out various userbility issues, is: “An iWatch will be very useful – and useful things sell by the boatload.”
This isn’t the first report we’ve seen referring to the expected success of the Apple iWatch. In April, data published by ChangeWave Research pointed to growing demand for Apple to start production of the so-called iWatch – the company’s rumoured venture into the wearable technology market. In a survey involving 1,713 North American respondents, 19 per cent of consumers considered themselves ‘likely’ to
buy the Apple watch.
