Epic Games has rejected Apple’s claim that the game developer’s lawsuit against it is really just a way to try to rekindle interest in Fortnite on iOS,
According to Apple, Fortnite’s popularity on iOS fell by as much as 70% between October 2019 and July 2020. Epic, however, says Apple used Google search data incorrectly, and insists that Fortnite’s popularity on iOS actually increased by 39% during the same period.
Epic also contradicts Apple’s claim that the App Store has now become more secure because it removed Epic’s apps. Apple didn’t highlight “a single security issue” with Fortnite’s built-in payment and update systems, Epic said, the latter of which it had used “for years without objection”.
The Apple/Epic dispute has been dragging on since mid-summer. Earlier this month Apple announced it was countersuing for
breach of contract.
