We’ve previously reported on a variety of bugs afflicting the latest watchOS 7 software update for Apple Watch, including excessive battery drain and problems with workout data being saved properly, even affecting some workouts that happened before the update was installed.
The iOS 14.0.1 and watchOS 7.0.1 point updates fixed these two bugs for many users, but not all. Now MacRumors reports that Apple has published a support document with a solution for those who are still experiencing diminished battery life, cannot see their old workouts on the map, or have other sync problems with Fitness and Health.
The solution is pretty drastic. Apple advises users to unpair the watch and phone, which saves a fresh backup of all data from the watch, then make a new backup of the phone, then reset the iPhone and restore from the backup.
Apple has a list of symptoms and says that users who experience two or more of these should follow the procedure. The company writes that you should back up your iPhone to iCloud, but of course it works just as well if you back up to a computer, provided (and this is very important) you’ve activated encrypted backups in Finder/iTunes.
Update: Apple has now issued an update to the Apple Watch 3, more information here: Apple Watch update fixes Watch 3 reboot issues.
