This Friday, 30 October, marks exactly one year since Apple released the
AirPods Pro. Research companies report that Apple’s premium wireless headphones have sold like hot cakes ever since.
Those two facts point to an imminent update to the AirPods Pro, and it would be undeniably logical for that update to be announced at Apple’s expected
17 November event. But according to
Bloomberg, the launch of the second-gen AirPods Pro, and the third-gen AirPods, will be delayed until next year.
Reports – and some early
leaked photos – suggest that Apple wants to reduce the length of the earbuds, something that would give a more compact shape in the style of
Samsung’s Galaxy Buds. But squeezing all the components into a smaller chassis has proven to be more difficult than expected.
Apple has also been experiencing problems with development of its new over-ear
AirPods Studio headphones, so it’s possible that these too will be pushed back to 2021.
