Rumours about the cameras in the next iPhone continue to contradict themselves. While early rumours suggested that the camera of the iPhone 13 would be largely unchanged from its predecessor, there is now increasingly convincing evidence of major improvements.
According to Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Thomas O’Malley, all four models of the iPhone 13 will be equipped with an upgraded ultra-wide-angle camera, as MacRumors reports. In this respect, the analysts contradict the renowned Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo, who also predicts an upgrade, but only in the Pro models; the remaining iPhone models – presumably the 13 and 13 mini, although there’s still a chance Apple will go for the 12s branding in late 2021 – will only receive this upgrade in the next generation, he claims.
However, all three experts agree that the ultra-wide-angle camera will be equipped with an upgraded aperture, f/1.8 instead of f/2.4. With a larger aperture, more light will hit the sensor, which means better images are possible even in poor lighting conditions.
Barclays also reports that the improved telephoto lens of the iPhone 12 Pro Max (65mm focal length and f/2.2) will also be installed in the iPhone 13 Pro.
A later leak suggests that the iPhone 13 will offer a camera feature for taking photography of the night sky.
