As we’ve previously reported, Apple is believed to be developing multiple upcoming products in the mixed reality segment – in other words, offering a combination of AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality).
According to a new report from the well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo quoted by The Verge, an Apple mixed-reality headset will be launched next year, while the company’s smart glasses will be launched in 2025.
In addition, Apple is said to have a goal of launching contact lenses that use AR technology some time in the 2030s.
“We predict that Apple’s MR/AR product roadmap includes three phases: helmet type by 2022, glasses type by 2025, and contact lens type by 2030–2040,” Kuo writes. “We foresee that the helmet product will provide AR and VR experiences, while glasses and contact lens types of products are more likely to focus on AR applications.”
The information is in line with previous rumours, but these timelines all presuppose that Apple does not encounter unexpected development and production problems, either of which could drastically push back delivery estimates.
