According to the latest information, Apple will launch a new MacBook Air, in a range of colourful finishes, with an M2 processor in 2022.
The M2 is the next full-version update of the popular M1 processor, which appears in most of Apple’s current Mac range. There will be a minor M1X update to the chip before then, but this is reserved for Pro Mac models: the M1X is likely to first appear in the autumn, in a new generation of MacBook Pro.
This is all according to a tweet from the account Dylandkt, which has previously posted information that later proved to be correct. The account is rated by AppleTrack as 81.3% accurate.
Just wanted to share some details on when to expect the next generation M2 (not the M1X which is reserved for the Pro Mac devices). This processor is on track to release in the first half of 2022 alongside the upcoming colorful Macbook (Air).

The M2-equipped MacBook Air is expected to be a completely new generation of laptop, featuring a complete redesign: it’s expected to lose its characteristic sloping shape and come in a number of vibrant colours. The way the iMac 24in looks right now offers a clue about the MacBook Air of the future.
This is part of a long-term strategy, discussed elsewhere by Jonas Ekelund, under which ‘cheap and fun’ versions of Apple products will have weaker specs and bright colour finishes, while more powerful Pro models will appear in more sombre ones. This plan will include an imminent update to the iMac, likely with a larger screen, featuring a more powerful M1X chip but without the vibrant colours.
