Apple’s suppliers have now begun mass (or ‘volume’) production of the hotly anticipated next-generation MacBook Pro for 2021 in both 14in and 16in screen sizes.
Apple is aiming to reach production of up to 800,000 units a month by the end of November, according to the industry news site DigiTimes, citing “sources from the upstream supply chain”.
The news fits with previous reports pointing to Apple planning to launch the new MacBook Pro models some time between September and November 2021. Following a dearth of hardware announcements in the first half of the year, and a typically quiet summer, Apple is headed for an action-packed autumn, with the new MacBooks competing with the iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7 and new AirPods for news-site column inches.
The new MacBook Pro models are expected to feature mini-LED screen backlighting, a technology already used in the flagship version of Apple’s iPad Pro tablet. Mini-LED is designed to provide improved colour reproduction, blacker blacks, higher contrast and greater dynamic range than is offered by the screens of current MacBook models.
The new Pro models could also get an updated design and new Apple Silicon chips – likely M1X or M2 processors.
