At a dedicated event next Tuesday (14 September), Apple will unveil this year’s iPhone models, and new rumours about what’s in store are surfacing right up to the last minute. For example, we’re now hearing that Apple is changing up the colour options for this year’s new handsets. Whether this will be good or bad news, of course, will depend on your personal preferences.
New postings on the Ukrainian retailer KTC (via 91mobiles) indicate there will be six colour options for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini: black, blue, purple, pink, white and red. That means we’re losing green – which presumably has sold less well than the other options – and gaining pink.
(Apple has done similarly in the past. The iPhone 11 came – indeed still comes – in yellow, but that apparently uncommercial finish was replaced by blue when the iPhone 12 came along.)
For the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, meanwhile, there will be four colour finishes: black, gold, silver and bronze. Assuming the information is correct, graphite and Pacific Blue have been replaced by black and bronze.
In terms of storage, the iPhone 13 and 13 mini will give you the option of 64GB or 128GB, depending on your budget, while the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will come in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB flavours. In other words it sounds like the long-running terabyte rumour was erroneous.
On the other hand, this information itself should probably be taken with a pinch of salt. We aren’t familiar with KTC and can’t point to a track record of successful predictions in the past; it’s also easy to see why an e-commerce site might choose to court publicity by posting pre-release product entries even if it doesn’t know for sure what the products will look like.
For that matter, another Ukrainian site is listing the iPhone 13 mini with a terabyte storage option (spotted by MacRumors), so who knows what to believe?
Still, there’s only four days to go until we find out the truth: here’s how to watch the iPhone event on Tuesday night. There will be rumours breaking right up to the announcement, so check our regularly updated iPhone 13 news hub for the latest info.
Once the devices are launched you’ll be able to find the lowest prices in our iPhone deals roundup. If you’re looking to scrape together the funds to buy the new phone, you may want to trade in your old model before the announcement is made.
