The tenth beta of macOS Monterey is now with developers and public testers, suggesting the final version of macOS Monterey will be available soon.
There are some interesting additions in the latest beta: namely Universal Control has gained a beta label, but the software feature is still absent from the beta – to access the feature testers need to implement it manually.
The Universal Control feature – which will make it possible to use a mouse and a keyboard across multiple Macs and iPads, moving from one screen to another smoothly, even allowing you to drag and drop between different machines – is still not available ‘officially’ but it is possible to enable it manually if you follow very complex steps outlined here.
We don’t think that this means that Apple will include Universal Control as a beta in the final version of Monterey when that is released to the public. The fact that it is still not officially being tested would indicate that it is not ready for prime time yet, even in beta form. But Apple has in the past released beta labeled features with final versions of software, so it is feasible that it could do so.
